What are the top science, tech, health, and environmental questions the candidates for president should answer?

INSTRUCTIONS:
A) Be sure to vote on existing questions.
B) Address your question to the candidates and ask about their policy positions. Don’t ask rhetorical questions. Ask your question in summary form (your “headline” question), then a new window will open up, where you should:
C) Provide more detail in a 2-part format:
1) Declarative statement (1-2 sentences max) describing the situation and context, followed by
2) Question (1 sentence) asking what they will do about it if elected.

FOLLOW THIS EXAMPLE FROM 2012:
What priority will you give to funding scientific research?
Federally funded research has helped to produce America’s major postwar economies and to ensure our national security, but today the UK, Singapore, China, and Korea are making competitive investments in research. Given that the next Congress will face spending constraints, what priority would you give to investment in research in your upcoming budgets?

A top science question the candidates for president should answer is:

  1. How do you plan to clean the plastic from the ocean?

The plastic debris must be removed from the ocean if life is going to survive on this planet, how to remove the plastic is a critical question that must be addressed, planned, funded, and completed now.

    • What efforts would your administration make to improve the health of our oceans?

Scientists estimate that 75 percent of the world’s fisheries are in serious decline, habitats like coral reefs are threatened by ocean acidification, and large areas of ocean and coastlines are polluted or hypoxic. What role would your administration take domestically and through foreign policy to protect the environmental health and economic vitality of the oceans?

      • As the oceans get more acid and jellyfish replace fish, shall we continue a policy of "wait and see"?

The rise in global land/air temperatures can be masked by local and seasonal variation. But no one denies the oceans are getting more acidic - you can measure it yourself and fish are being pushed aside by jellyfish. Even climate "skeptics" offer no explanation other than mounting atmospheric carbon. Will you give urgent priority to saving the seas, on which our lives depend?

        • How would you clean up the oil under the arctic ice with a blow out like the Gulf of Mexico?

Any oil exploration underneath the Arctic ice is nothing but a fossil fuel mine sitting under the arctic sea.
